Day for the Protection of the Alps 2024 - Recap

The second Day for the Protection of the Alps took place on May 3, 2024—and once again, our network made a strong and visible statement for the preservation of alpine nature. Across the Alpine region, groups like POW, Mountain Wilderness Deutschland, Naturfreunde Tirol, BI Feldring, WET, and Patagonia organized local actions to raise awareness for the protection of alpine nature.
A joint press conference with PAN members (Mountain Wilderness, Nosc Cunfin, BI Feldring) and partner NGOs (WWF, ÖAV, Naturfreunde Österreich, Global 2000) generated strong media interest. Coverage ranged from local outlets like the Tiroler Tageszeitung to national platforms, thanks in part to an APA press release.
Social media reach also exceeded expectations: the still small PAN account reached nearly 150,000 accounts in just one month, with support from high-profile partners like ÖAV, POW Austria, and WWF Austria.
In Innsbruck, a well-attended exhibition and final event—including a popular screen-printing action at the Patagonia store—connected the topic with the local community.
We see this day as a strong foundation. Many groups have already confirmed participation in the next joint action: a press conference in the Tyrolean Kaunertal on June 16, 2024, organized by the Austrian, German, and South Tyrolean Alpine Clubs together with other NGOs and grassroots organizations. We’re looking forward to continuing the momentum—together.
